DPS Go Green Challenge News from the Schools!
Hoop House at Renaissance High School
10th grade Student Asia Bell wrote a grant for a moderate-sized hoop house at Renaissance High School. The grant was awarded and the materials were purchased late this past fall through Donorschose.org. This Monday, the hoop house was built and put in place in our garden area. Her teacher, Kerry Williams, is very proud of her dedication, drive and success.
Priest Energy and Water Nap Time Books
The Green Team at Priest Elementary/Middle school have spent the last few weeks working on story books for the younger students at their school. The green team is composed of 7th grade students. The students started by mapping out characters and a story revolving around being more sustainable in regards to peoples energy and water use.
The story time book places the green team as super heroes and they go around saving different objects (Fan, Laptop, Light, and refrigerator) from people that leave them on excessively. In the books the objects are personified and express emotions such as sadness due to an inability to sleep because people never turn them off. The books will be copied and handed out to classes in the elementary building.
