DPS Go Green Challenge News from the Schools!
West Side Academy Green Shirts
Last Friday as one of their Earth Week activities the Green Team at West Side Academy created T-shirts for the green team. The green team brought their own white T-shirts to school and they used spray paint and stencils to paint the shirts. They used Blue and Green paint for their shirts.
Along with their SC’s the stencils they created were of a globe and of a panther. Their school mascot is the panther and they wanted to use it with earth to represent their school pride of being part of the DPS Go Green Challenge!
Art Contest Winner
DPS had three winners in the 6th annual My Green School Art Contest! Karnella Cleary, from Vernor who placed 1st in the 5th grade group, Jaquelyn McClanahan from Gompers who placed 2nd in the 5th grade group, and a kindergarten student at Bennett Elementary school, Audra Gladstone.The art contest was hosted by the U.S. Green Building Council Detroit Chapter. Audra art focused on how her school is taking steps to stay green.
As winners of the art contest Karnella, Jaquelyn, and Audra, their Teachers Ms. Brown, Ms. Mayas & M. Flowers, and Lori Massberg, and their parents were invited to participate in Michigan Earth Day Festival in Rochester, Michigan. As winners of the contest their art was displayed in the Michigan Earth Day Fest, and will be part of a traveling art show including the Michigan Energy Fair and Next Energy! They were invited to a celebratory pizza party at Rochester Mills Beer Company for all of the art contest winners.
